2 Clips -- VP Biden on Today, DHS Sec. Napolitano on MSNBC Re Swine Flu ... Oops, I Mean H1N1!

Miniature_pigs

No, I mean swine flu, but countries have to stop banning pork products from the infected countries if we will continued to be able to call it that.

(More cute pigs today above, yes, but when you see a cute pig these days you should think about covering your mouth when you cough and don't go out if you're sick, that's what Janet Napolitano, our DHS Secretary says in the second clip with MSNBC's Tamron Hall. BTW, Tamron Hall is gorgeous. Just thought I'd say it.)

People_applegate In his clip, Biden tells Lauer that if he was advising family, he would advise against commercial air travel and possibly using mass transit during this event. "But that's just me," he says.

I have no plans in either area.

Biden also talks to Matt about his involvement in getting Arlen Spector to switch parties, and about how he didn't get chosen as one of People Magazine's Barack's Beauties section in the Most Beautiful People issue (Christina Applegate very appropriately graces the cover, and it's the heretofore not mentioned third and bonus clip after the jump.)

All clips after the jump.

Video -- Samantha Who? Returns Tonight on ABC

Samwho_sam_roses

Don't you just love Christina Applegate? I would watch her sip tea and read the Sunday New York Times if they would air it. Fortunately, what they do air involves clever writing and direction, a great cast and outstanding performances.

And, our semi-friend of the blog co-exec prod Bob Kushell (haven't heard from him since the WGA strike last year), is one of those clever people doing so behind the scenes.

And although that guy in Entertainment Weekly didn't like the season premiere, there's nothing that would stop me from watching the show.

Everyone's back, and this season Sam will actually live in that really nice Chicago condo she owns. No word on whether Todd (Barry Watson) will remain living there.

You can read the show's official blog at this link.

And the clip, in a widget from ABC with other applicable video, is after the jump.

Tonight, after the ridiculously inappropriate lead-in, that ballroom dancing show, at 9:30 on ABC.

Early Detection Key, Full Recovery Expected After Christina Applegate Breast Cancer Revelation

Samwho_christina Early detection. Early detection. Early detection. Early detection. Early detection. Early detection.

American Cancer Association website:

The goal of screening exams for early breast cancer detection is to find cancers before they start to cause symptoms. Screening refers to tests and exams used to find a disease, such as cancer, in people who do not have any symptoms.

Early detection means using an approach that allows earlier diagnosis of breast cancer than otherwise might have occurred.

Breast cancers that are found because they are causing symptoms tend to be larger and are more likely to have already spread beyond the breast. In contrast, breast cancers found during screening exams are more likely to be smaller and still confined to the breast. The size of a breast cancer and how far it has spread are some of the most important factors in predicting the prognosis (outlook) of a woman with this disease.

Because I can't say it enough.

Reuters:

Actress Christina Applegate, famed for playing ditzy daughter Kelly Bundy on TV comedy "Married ... With Children," is fighting breast cancer, but expected to make a full recovery, her spokeswoman said on Saturday.

Applegate, 36, was diagnosed with cancer during a regular MRI, spokeswoman Ame Van Iden said in an email.

If you have a family history, like Christina does, one must be very diligent about these regular checks.

The ACA website, again:

Breast cancer risk is higher among women whose close blood relatives have this disease.

Having 1 first-degree relative (mother, sister, or daughter) with breast cancer almost doubles a woman's risk. Having 2 first-degree relatives increases her risk about 5-fold. Although the exact risk is not known, women with a family history of breast cancer in a father or brother also have an increased risk of breast cancer. Overall, about 20% to 30% of women with breast cancer have a family member with this disease. (It's important to note this means that 70% to 80% of women who get breast cancer do not have a family history of this disease.)

A woman with cancer in one breast has a 3- to 4-fold increased risk of developing a new cancer in the other breast or in another part of the same breast. This is different from a recurrence (return) of the first cancer.

And I and I'm sure all you readers wish her well.

SAG TV Comedy Awards For Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, The Office, The Sopranos Sweeps Drama

30_rock_tina_alec I gotta tell you, and I think I said it just the other day for the Globes, I would have gone for Christina Applegate, who just charms the socks off of you in Samantha Who! (and of course has the words of people like our pal Bob Kushell to do that with).

And yes, I love Tina Fey, I don't want you all sending me hate mail or starting a campaign where you buy eyeglasses at thrift stores and shatter one lens and send that to me in protest, but I really do think she's right when she makes mention of her performance being elevated by Alec Baldwin's, now that's a deserving award.

Get it? Elevated? And I wrote that even before finding this pic. I love Serendipity!!!

And the other thing is that Tina Fey is in a true ensemble at 30 Rock but Christina carries that show on her back, she's in almost every scene.

There's a clip after the jump.

Golden Globes Best TV Comedy? Extras . Comedy Actress? Tina Fey!

(Note: I'm actually sitting here waiting for them to say ...)

... Extras!

Well, at least it isn't Ugly Betty, which is not a comedy.

Honestly, though, I think the HFPA gave it to Extras because of the holiday finale that HBO just ran, not so much the second series. The finale was remarkable.

Thing is, the finale for the most part, wasn't really a comedy. Think of the Ashley Jensen arc of the finale and then tell me that the show you saw was a comedy. Sure there were funny bits, but Gervais' and Merchant's script was more an analysis of fame and the shortcomings thereof than a yuckfest.

Still it was fab.

In that second series that this award was supposedly for, this was a great few moments from the Daniel Radcliffe episode.

LINK

Yes, that was Dame Diana Rigg picking the condom out of her hair.

Tina Fey as outstanding actress in a comedy? Really? I'm shocked. My choice was Christina Applegate.

Piven was a given, but I prefer Neil Patrick Harris.

Mad Men wins outstanding drama series? WOW! AMC must be thrilled! And, of course, the Lipp sisters.

UPDATE: Now wait a minute, was it Mad Men or Damages? I'll correct later, in the meantime we can all get excited about Jon Hamm winning best actor.

Don't know who the Lipp sisters are? Shame on you.

More Golden Globes stuff later.

Christina Applegate Guests on Season Premiere of Reno 911! Jan. 16

Of course, you know Christina from her groundbreaking appearances as Bob Kushell's wife in a series (two is a series, right?) of WGA strike clips courtesy of the global media concern Kushellvision.

(Yeah, also Samantha Who? and Jesse and Married With Children and from singing that penis song in The Sweetest Thing, which we're gonna throw onto the site right here because I love it. It's really really not suitable for work or you kids.)

LINK

But this is the clip that we're here for, and it's the season premiere of Reno 911! and as we enter the fray, Lt. Dangle, he of the short shorts and Officer Wiegel, she of the complete and total brain matter disarray are talking to the once-again loitering street trash Terry (Nick Swardson) who claims he's waiting for his ... wife?

LINK

This Wednesday at 10:30 on Comedy Central, but you gotta turn it off right afterward. I don't want any of you watching The Daily Show until the writers are back. This season of Reno was shot before the strike.

Bob Kushell Makes the Citizen Kane of WGA Strike Videos

You saw Bob's first strike clip here last week. Today he comes back with a revealing look at the making of that clip, and ... how it ended the WGA strike all on its own.

Okay, not really.

But what it will do is make you laugh. Look for guest stars Christina Applegate (again), Jon Cryer, Julie Bowen (who has a great couple of lines at Bob's expense) and the deliciously lovely Wendie Malick.

And look for the scene inspired by Lily Tomlin and David O. Russell.

Click here for the Kushellivision YouTube page.

Also, remember there are four more new eps of Samantha Who? in the can. Support the show and its writers by watching the show live on air on ABC Mondays at 9.

Video -- Samantha Who? Scribe Bob Kushell and His Wife (Played Here By Christina Applegate)

And yes, Bob could have had his sister Lisa Kushell (Mad TV) play his wife (who Bob tells us refused to be in this clip) but that would have been weird and slightly sick.

So Christina Applegate rises to the occasion to play Bob's wife, who just wants to get Bob back to work and out of the house.

And no, she doesn't want to go to a movie, Bob!

Charmed Out of My Shoes by Samantha Who?

Sam_who_todd_sam

And if you are not, you must be dead inside. Everything about this show just makes me smile.

And, more important because it's a comedy, I actually laugh, you know, out loud, which is not something that you can say about some things that are purported to be comedies these days on the tube.

Last week's attempt by Sam to find out about sex was just the best. And everyone in the cast had great lines. Jean Smart is a treasure and Jennifer Esposito is spot on, but the two people I'm most surprised by in the supporting cast are Barry Watson and Melissa McCarthy, I guess because although I've known of them for a while, I've never watched them more than the once or twice 7th Heaven and Gilmore Girls have crossed my TV screen on my way to something else.

And Christina? What's not to love? She is so charming and so good at finding that word or phrase that unlocks the funny in a scene. She is a consumate TV comedy pro.

This episode was written by Bob Kushell and directed by a great comedy director, Barnet Kellman(76 episodes of Murphy Brown can't be wrong).

I don't know how many more new episodes there are left, but you can be sure that they will rerun everything they've got in the can, so I strongly encourage you, especially if you're watching either Heroes or Rules in that timeslot, to eventually check it out.
