I'm sure it would have been louder, but it was the upfronts and people do try to act in a somewhat civil nature.
BTW, these mentions in the press of Trump being offered up to $60 million to do another year of the show? That is the biggest load of shit I've ever heard.
The British tabloids couldn't be happier. They love a good controversy and this one's as big as they come for a TV show. The image above is how the UK Mirror broke the story.
(Because it IS just a TV show, right? No? What is that you're saying? It's a viable employment search strategy? Only if you have very very tall hair and lots of energy and then you might just get a couple hit singles and a reality show but if you invest the proceeds properly it might send you to college.)
The thing is there are rules about such things because all these shows from Idol to AGT/BGT to X-Factor are ostensibly game shows and there are rules and laws that apply.
Now today there's word that Susan Boyle's first performance on Britain's Got Talent was manipulated to make her sound better which bring up the issue of the drama created when her second appearance on the show didn't go as well as the first. Basically it seems the show created the drama by manipulation of the performance alone, doesn't it?
AND ... if that's the case what happened in the finale (she lost to a dance crew) and afterward when there were reports of a tailspin in the fragile Boyle's psyche is particularly distressing.
This all broke in the London tabs because of this performance from Gamu Nhengu (CLIP) on the show this past week. On first listen I have to say that without knowing ahead of time I wouldn't have recognized the telltale signs of the Auto-Tune technology, that slightly robotic-sounding thing, especially noticeable during what Cheryl Cole calls her "quirky woo-hoo-hoos."
After Saturday's show viewers flocked to Twitter and Facebook to complain about the heavy-handed use of digital pitch effects – particularly on Gamu Nhengu's version of Walking on Sunshine, which she belted out with a spooky, computer-like precision, a bit like Mariah Carey impersonating Robocop. It seemed clear that Nhengu had been lined up as a favourite and this had been scripted as the big star-making moment.
I can see why producers (Cowell included) were interested in making her a favorite, she has a very compelling backstory (watch the clip for details).
Like everything in this world, it wasn't a problem until they got caught. Now it's a big problem, ethically, legally and if the audiences for these shows dwindle because of the news, financially.
And with Cowell working to bring X-Factor here for the 2011 season, someone better fix this.
Now would be a good time.
Okay, not a great act, certainly, but not a lipsynch either, so you gotta be a little impressed.
And of course this morning from Digital Spy in the UK the obligatory story about how the poor guy's folks have turned their backs on him:
Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist Max Oliver has revealed that his father has disowned him after watching his audition for the show.
The Lady GaGa impersonator - who will perform live in tonight's episode - received the news last month when his dad decided to get in touch for the first time in years.The budding star's father is said to have walked out on his family after Oliver, who performs under the name of Maxxie, announced that he was gay at the age of 14.

Well, apparently she won't do Conan, Jay or Jimmy. And I'm sure she's not doing Letterman or Craig, or Kimmel.
However, this Monday morning at 4 am eastern in the US, you can click here and be transported to Sir Terry Wogan's BBC Radio Two program where it says on Susan's site he will have "special Susan Boyle surprise."

I'm surprised, actually, that they aren't scheduling Boyle for the Monday edition of AGT which will be the lead in to the first episode of The Jay Leno Show. That would make great sense. Then again, it's NBC. What does good sense have to do with the suits in the tower at Universal City?
Presale numbers for Susan's debut album are outpacing for Jay-Z and Whitney Houston, btw.

What I DO know and many other outlets don't is that the song from Cats isn't called Memories, it's called Memory. Sheesh, it takes a Google search, people. Don't make someone else rich because you love her voice and are fascinated by her story, save your money for her album.

But, and it's a big but ... (as opposed to other big things that might have been the key to Brook's hiring in the first place -- though Simon doesn't usually go for the chesty types, at least from squinting at Terri Seymour) does this mean that Kelly Brook is available to be the new Doctor Who companion?
Well, I certainly hope not. She's not really an actress, she presents TV (you know, like Mario Lopez here in the States only with different naughty bits).
Plus, a little boy like Matt Smith wouldn't know what to do with this (see image right).
In fact, all though this article at Reuters, there are indications that she doesn't even do that well:

What Simon said in letting her go was that the format just doesn't support four judges. And that may be true (of his show and of Idol here in the States, though we will have to wait and see).
But from the tone of the article, overall, is that Kelly Brook is a very pretty woman with a mondo rack and less than adequate TV skills.
Not a heavyweight.

I found her in a scene from Smallville that I placed after the jump. She works with college roommate Dave's nephew, Michael Rosenbaum. I'm not impressed.
