NBC Picks Up Back End of Kath & Kim 13-Ep Order, Already!

Kathkimus_only_available_image And that's very promising. Depending, of course, on who's the decision maker. If they know their comedy, it's a very good thing. Apparently, the network loves what they've seen so far. I don't know if it's being tested in front of focus groups, but if it is and you are someone that just happened to see it, send me a note, will ya?

Of course, I'm the guy whose always looking at the possible downside. Let's see if you can find what the problem will be for me, your TV Junkie.

THR via Yahoo!:

The pickup comes shortly after the mother-daughter comedy starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair shot the first episode of its six-episode order. The show is scheduled to go back into production next month on the remaining segments.

(snip)

It is slated to premiere October 9, in the plum Thursday 9:30 p.m. slot following "The Office."

Did you find it? Yeps, that's right! If the show hits, I just betcha that NBC is gonna keep it in that timeslot, a timeslot normally reserved for your pals at 30 Rock. Just the Emmy-winning outstanding comedy of 2006-7 is all.

So, what happenes to Tina, Alec, Tracy and the TGS gang if Kath & Kim hits in its timeslot? Well, I dunno, they hardly ever consult with me, though they should.

But if I were Lorne Michaels, I would be having my people work the phones today to see what the hell in going on. And, I'd make sure I got to see some of the dailies to see if I had anything to worry about.

But I can get kinda tense about these things.

Is it Telling That Ben Silverman's Initials are BS?

Gladiators_militia_alex_castroVery telling, imho. Oh, shit, there goes my job at NBC. Oh well, the Gladiators are gonna have to oil up without me this season.

(Just kidding, but that's a job that NBC should put on its auction site. I betcha they'd make a lot of money selling the opportunity to oil up the former Colt model that appears on the show [pictured]. Gladiators comes back at the end of the month, btw.)

Anyhow, our online pal Daisy Whitney from TV Week covered Ben's keynote interview at the TV Week Upfront Summit in NYC.

Here's some of Daisy's piece:

In 15 years, broadcast television will only be useful for high-profile live events like the Super Bowl, awards shows and programs like “American Idol,” Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment, said during a keynote interview at the TelevisionWeek Upfront Summit in New York.

Other shows will have to live on multiple platforms to survive.

“[Broadcast] will also be where we launch our episodic storytelling vehicles, but they will be living and breathing everywhere,” he said.

NBC plans to experiment with driving viewers to the Web from TV with its new fall show “Kath and Kim.” NBC will offer continued scenes online after each episode airs, Mr. Silverman said.

“Around our new offerings there will literally be shows that end on air and the last scene will continue online,” he said.

(snip)

When asked about the reputation he has developed in his short time on the job as an entertainment chief who works closely with marketers, he said that’s due to the new generation of showrunners who are “friends” of advertisers.

That includes Tim Kring and Tina Fey, who head up popular NBC shows “Heroes” and “30 Rock,” respectively, Mr. Silverman said.

“Tina Fey loves American Express. They have been inside '30 Rock,' in the show. They have supported her through the Tribeca Film Festival,” he said. “Tim Kring enjoys his relationships with Nissan. He felt Nissan helped empower the growth of that show.”

My considered comments after the jump. And, btw, they are the same comments that I left after Daisy's piece at TV Week, just so you don't have to read them twice.

I know, I said member.

Will Arnett is back tonight. It's a big Jack episode as well.

NBC Moves 30 Rock Back to 9:30

30_rockefeller_plaza

They say in the article at Variety it's because it gives the show the chance to grab The Office's audience, but I have a sense that there are a couple other reasons as well.

They say:

Slot switcheroo is a no-brainer. "Rock" has been renewed for next season and is a key part of NBC's sitcom strategy going forward. "Scrubs," meanwhile, will air its final NBC episode in a few weeks. Peacock execs rightly figured it made sense to use the final few weeks of the season pumping up "Rock."

NBC brass are also trying to capitalize on the pre-release hype surrounding "Baby Mama," which Fey toplines.

One of those reasons, I think, is MILF Island.

As you know, Ben Silverman made a big deal out of his pronouncement that the 8 o'clock hour was gonna once again be the Family Hour when he announced his schedule.

Yes, the Family Hour, that magic time where people and their kids bask in the glow of the screen before them and share quality time together watching non-confrontational, non-violent, non-sexual content.

Yeah, except that they must be planning to travel through time back to 1975 to find the Family Hour, because that doesn't happen ever anymore. Kids go to their rooms to surf the 'net or talk on their cellies or, sometimes, studying.

And a show that has a spoof inside it that calls for "20 MILFs, 50 eighth grade boys, NO RULES" doesn't quite fit into the Family Hour mix.

Well, I'm happy about the move. I happen to think that Earl and Scrubs are a better fit for each other, anyway, both being single camera shows with narration.

Legendary Tim Conway on 30 Rock Tonight

He talks to Today's Hoda Kotb and some crazy eyed woman with hair extensions and too much Botox below.

Entertainment Weekly Finds MILF Island Winner "Deborah" on Broadway

Deborah

Yes, folks, our friends at EW with their endless resources and NYC reporters have found the woman with the bearing of a queen. And she's starring on Broadway in A Chorus Line.

Deidre Goodwin is the woman in question (see above), she was the "winner" of season one of MILF Island and I'm sure she's already taken lunch with Jack Donaghy and Liz Lemon about the planned spinoff.

(I don't want it to be a talk show, though, I think it should be something that extends the MILF-iness of the original show, like maybe a makeover show for high school boys or something that involves a hot female gym teacher vibe.

Deidre comments on being Deborah after the jump.

EW Photo Feature on Kenneth the Page's Music Playlist

Kennethconan

Not Jack McBrayer's but Kenneth's, though I suspect some overlap with the Mariah mention.

Kenneth says of Carey's E=MC2, "The high notes really make my parakeet dance!"

After the jump, Jack's latest FunnyOrDie.com clip (actually, an older Livin' 'Neath The Law clip I never got to post.

And, btw, there are now over 24 members in the Facebook We Wanna See MILF Island group.

(There are exactly 25 26 members.)

About Our MILF Island Campaign

Facebook page is at this link.

I've said this in email but not yet on the blog ... if Jeff Zucker were as smart as everyone thinks he is, he would have had a 90-minute MILF Island special to run in the SNL timeslot on Saturday and a two-hour unrated DVD ready for Tuesday release on Amazon and at your local retailer.

But he didn't.

Too bad, so sad, it would have been nice for the GE bottom line, which isn't doing too well according to the business sections of every paper in America.

And yes, it was a lot of fun getting a quote from MILF Island host Rob Huebel.

Exclusive: MILF Island Email From Host Rob Huebel

Debra_rob

Our Human Giant pal Rob Huebel (Human Giant Season Two on MTV Tuesdays at 11 pm) is pictured above ordering Debra to toss her bikini top into the fire after elimination from MILF Island.

He says:

I am under strict legal restraints to not discuss MILF Island behind the scenes.  Suffice it to say that the incident at Erection Cove will haunt me forever.  I have never seen MILFs acting like such animals. It was supposed to be a fun TV show.  I was not told it would lead to unbridled violence and bloodshed.  I've already said too much ...

My God, does the network know about this? And where is this footage from Erection Cove? Should a Senate subcommittee be looking into Huebel's allegations?

After the jump, saucy screengrabs from MILF Island.
