24 Adds Katee Sackhoff for Season Eight

Katee_sackhoff

Big news coming out of the casting sessions for 24's next (final?) season for a while now, and while I'm not a viewer of the show (I like to save my discussions of torture for real life) even I see that adding Freddie Prinze Jr. and Katee and Mykelti Williamson and Jennifer Westveldt (Mrs. Jon Hamm) is a big deal.

From the THR story:

After a couple of weeks of on-and-off negotiations, Katee Sackhoff, best known for her role as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on "Battlestar Galactica," has been tapped to co-star on Fox's "24."

On the 20th TV/Imagine TV series, she will play Dana Walsh, a smart and competent expert data analyst at CTU with a secret past who is involved with CTU agent Davis Cole (Freddie Prinze Jr.).

The season is already in production. That's early for a January show, huh. I would guess the faster they get it in the can the better. It's a show that's suffered through delays in the last couple years for all kinds of reasons from the writers' strike to the occasional inprisonment of an actor.

(And almost another recently, though that sitch seems to have been quelled.)

They certainly hired a woman who can kick ass and take names. Should be interesting to see what they have planned for Katee. How do you fans of the show feel about this? Use the comment section.

Possibly Final Season on 24 Will Shoot in NYC

24_sc-a1207_014_f

So Fringe, which is set in Boston moves to Vancouver for the second season's filming and 24 leaves Los Angeles for New York?

NY Daily News (and not that Newscorp-owned tabloid in the same town because you can't even trust them to get stories about other units of their own company right):

Though the Fox series will still be filmed in Los Angeles, the eighth season of the show will be peppered with scenes from New York City, a spokesman for Twentieth Century Fox Television, the studio that produces "24," told the Daily News.

Star Kiefer Sutherland, who plays Bauer, and the rest of the crew may do some filming in New York. Production begins in late spring.

So, not all, but part. Kind of like what Cagney & Lacey and NYPD Blue used to do. And The Odd Couple, for that matter.

I would have just left Fringe in NY and set the final season (possibly, nothing is set in stone) of Kiefer's show in San Francisco but shot it in Vancouver.

And I would have set all the torture scenes for the year on 24 in a series of undisclosed dungeons south of Market and had Kiefer going undercover to reveal a sleeper cell of terrorists who masquerade as dominatrixes with a long laundry list of Republican lobbyists and elected officials who just beg to be dominated by Eastern European beauties that don't just dress to kill, they kill.

Instead, 24 should shoot in NYC with the only torture Kiefer involved in be at the hands of a co-op board that blocks him from buying a unit across from the United Nations building where he's coordinating surveillance of a cadre of former Lehman Brothers board members attempting to sell the company's reported 450,000 pounds of yellowcake uranium to Muqtada al-Sadr and the Mahdi Army so they can reopen Scores, the strip club Howard Stern and Wall Street traders made famous that closed earlier this year.

How's that for a season eight plotline?

I own all this new stuff, Brian Grazer, don't even try it.

E!'s Kristin Reporting Possible Jack Bauer Theatrical 24 Death Post Season Eight

24_s7_cast

Ms. Dos Santos says:

Not only did 24 executive producer Howard Gordon tell reporters he might very well "blow up the whole world" and Jack Bauer with it, but he's also talking about doing a big-screen 24 movie that will happen when the Fox series ends—and that end might come sooner than you think.

"My hope is to go after the eighth season," Gordon tells us, "and Kiefer and I have talked about it, and I think that’s sort of what we’re aiming for."

Now, I don't watch the show, but this seems like a good idea from a bunch of different angles. I can't really figure out how long Sutherland has left on his contract, renewed in 2006 because I don't know what they do about last year (no show). But if you don't count 2008 I think his deal ends this year, which means another renegotiation or an additional agreement to cover the final stanza and the film.

I had thought a couple years ago that they might try to go on with another lead, at the time Rick Schroeder was spending a year on the show. I guess I was horribly wrong again.

I have E!'s red carpet coverage from the Fox premiere of this season after the jump. Two clips, Sutherland and Carlos Bernard.

Hey Guys, 24: Redemption is Tonight, Not Monday (but you probably knew that)

24_sc-B39_452

Not that it makes any sense to me that it should be on tonight.

Why preempt your highly rated (especially in the demo) cartoon lineup to run the TV movie that goes with the show that usually airs on Monday night.

And why not preempt your failing Monday night shows to supercharge your sweeps month schedule with what will no doubt be one of the highest rated hours for Fox before Idol rears its head come January?

Well, I'm not in charge at Fox.

So, all my previous mentions of the thing airing tomorrow? I was wrong.

Some red carpet video from the premiere event for the movie that happened a few days back after the jump.

2 Clips & Red Carpet Pics From 24: Redemption Premiere in NYC

Because I love you guys (and because I have the pics).

And remember, 24: Redemption premieres at your home on your own TV if you so choose this Monday night at 8 eastern.

24_redemption_cast.jpg
The cast (I won't list them all, but I do find it surprising that Jon Voight, who was all McCainian during the election doesn't seem to mind hugging Cherry Jones, even though McCain doesn't seem interested in Cherry Jones' civil rights.

Your star, Kiefer Sutherland, who apparently wore a hat sometime before this photo was taken.

Cherry Jones, who plays President Allison Taylor.

More pics and two clips after the jump.

I voted for BSG. Not that I'm trying to rig the vote or anything.

The other shows? They're fine.

You don't see Tricia Helfer on those other shows though, do you?

Exactly.

Not that I'm skewing the vote, which you can participate in above.

24: Redemption Trailer Live Right Here, Now!

24_tshirt

So, why aren't you watching it yet? I don't really have anything to say.

It airs after Election Day, which is a good thing, and it undercuts anything I would have to say about the 24 gang trying to insinuate themselves or some meme into the 2008 Presidential Election, which I had ruminated over earlier.

Here's the clip.

Oh, click the t-shirt above to buy it at the Fox shop.

Rewrites Derail 24 Shoot Sked Till October 9

24_sutherland_mccrane

More issues for this show.

Entertainment Weekly's Dan Snierson reports on their website that the show's seventh season will stop shooting after Sept. 15 in order to retool the season-ending episodes:

"We had a couple of scripts that we weren't happy with," 24 exec producer Howard Gordon tells EW.com. "We just couldn't get this direction to work, and we found another one that we liked better, so we wound up retooling it.

Production shutdowns are usually cause for concern -- and 24 is coming off its least critically beloved season -- but Howard assures fans that everything will be on track, and the season will not be interrupted. He says that the show is ahead of schedule, which means the airing of season 7 -- which begins in January 2009 -- will not be affected.

Conspiracy Theory TV Junkie (meaning me with a different hat) always harkens back to the post about how the 24 crew (which includes some friends of Druggy Limbaugh) were trying to make some point about women in power by hiring an out lesbian to play the first female POTUS in history and now that conspiracy theorist inside me is thinking that they had to make some changes due to the choice of Sarah Palin by their brethren as the Rethug VP choice.

Whaddaya think? Am I crazy? Or am I crazy?

Comments, folks, that's why they're there.

Sarah Connor Returns to Battle For Another Season

Sarahconnor1

The Reporter is, uh, reporting (which is what they do) that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will be back for another go round.

I gave up on it around episode five, I think. I just don't connect to Lena Headey. In fact, after that episode I was convinced that she was a real-life terminator who had traveled back in time to give a listless, emotionless performance in this show.

Also, I think it's a problem for an action show that the action types on the show are women. John Connor doesn't do much besides getting tucked away in a corner while everyone fights for his future. I think the show would perform better with a stronger male lead. I think they cast the wrong kid.

It was the top-rated new scripted show of the 2007-8 season in the demo, which I know isn't saying a whole lot, but it's something.

I'm guessing that they'll pair it with 24 starting in January, though I have no details as such.

UPDATE: Details emerge. It's coming back for the Fall. How about that!
