Go read this story from Jace Lacob (Televisionary) at The Daily Beast where he talks to showrunners Dan Harmon and Hart Hanson (and Shonda Rhimes, but I don't watch those shows) about interaction with fans on, as Craig Ferguson calls it, the Tweety Box (which is not, I repeat not a euphemism for something you'd use to masturbate).
Caught my eye because I follow both of them on Twitter and they spend so much time tweeting each other I was surprised they had time to read other people's tweets.
However, I was kind of surprised to find out that these very pleasant men (or so it seems from their output and what I read) get harrassed by people who think they have much better ideas for the characters these men created than they do.
People, it's just TV. I love it, too, but you must chill. I little reality check might be in order. I provide that for you later in this post.
Check this from the article (I left the links so that you could follow along):
Ask Hanson about Twitter-based personal attacks and he’ll tell you about the follower who told him that she hoped Hanson’s dog would die or others who comment on Hanson’s family, whom he’s careful to shield from the public eye.
“I realized these rude people were encroaching upon my personal life—my own fault, mind you—for opening the door,” he said. “Which lead me to ask: why leave that door open?”
In the past, Hanson has been known to hit back, responding with sarcasm, which he regrets, such as in this exchange:
@Rosie_not_Rose: Brutal honesty - your writing of Brennan lately pisses a lot of us off. Have you forgotten what she was like in seasons 2/3?
@HartHanson: Brutal honesty: I don't give a rat's ass what you say.
“That made me a bully,” said Hanson, of such responses.
More of this, and bonus clips ('cuz yous loves the clips) after the jump.
First of all, I think a little preemptive blocking of that @Rosie_not_Rose person might be in order, although I'd really like to know who the "a lot of us" she mentions includes. Are they all friends? Do they meet up and have a potluck and watch episodes and critique the development of the Temperance character? For this potluck do they only serve stuff that has bones? Get it? Because the name of the show is ...
Again, it's just TV. And if Rosie doesn't like what she's watching she can always change the channel, as you can. I think however that both Hanson and Harmon, whose shows run against each other, would rather Rosie became an ardent fan of The Big Bang Theory. After all, Chuck Lorre (left) makes a whole lot more money than either of them with his three series and can probably hire more private security.
And about tweeting your favorite TV people, it's nice when someone responds but these people aren't your friends, despite the fact that their stories come into your home every week. There's one of them (showrunner/creator), there's millions of you (viewers).
I spend some time on Twitter tweeting at people on TV, but I do that to entertain MY followers. And of course, to annoy the people Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck pay to tweet for them.
I know you think you understand the show better than everyone else. You don't. No, you really don't. And you need to get outside. Get a dog, go for walks. Take up a hobby.
Okay, I'm done.
Now, because most of you have been good (but not you Rosie) here are three preview clips for the next new eps of Bones (one, two, three) and two behind the scenes clips from Community with Danny Pudi (link) and Alison Brie (link) talking about the upcoming stop-motion animation episode.
The clips will run right here, thank you Apture.com.
Seriously, leave the nice TV people alone unless you can be nice.
