The First 5 of My 43 Suggested New Names for ABC's Cougar Town

This was the first key art I saw on Cougar Town before the season started.

Then ABC had this on the Hulu home page for the show.

And lately this has been the prominent piece of key art for the show.

But you know, these's rumor afloat that ABC might be looking for a new title for the show, which at this point (and particularly after the liplock that ended last night's episode) that the title isn't appropriate anymore.

Shows are live organisms sometimes (when they're good and creative and giving you the best they got instead of just what they promised) and sometimes things, pesky things, like titles of shows, might do well to change to get more people interested in the show. I'm sure there were about 0.0005% of Americans that were put off by the title and what it meant to them.

Personally, I'm not bothered by the name but I can imagine that there might be additional season two sampling of the premiere if there's a new name attached to the show. 

Of course it might take a Summer of reruns and a specific promo campaign to do said attaching.

That costs $$$.

In the meantime I'm gonna come up with 43 new titles for the show before the May upfronts where I think they'd announce a change if there was one. I'll do this five titles at a time, because ... well, because I want to.

Also, because 43 is my lucky number.

3 Revelations Re: the #ChelseaHandler #SexTape Explanation (no, her swinging breasts aren't 2 of them)

No, no, no, this is not the blog where you'll read the florid description from RadarOnline.com about her breasts swinging around while being entered from behind by a man sporting a ... huge tool Prince Albert British accent.

Breasts. Ew. Nah, kidding of course, I was breast-fed after all.

If you haven't heard I read it first at HuffPo but it's a Radar Exclusive (though sex + Chelsea = nothing exclusive, apparently) and you can read about it at their site at this link.

Short version: The tape starts with her doing her stand-up act to a home vid camera, then there's a bunch of doggy-style sex in the middle with some alleged Brit with nice forearms (that's all I can tell from the single image from Radar, which you can see here to the left), then more stand-up, then it ends. Her mgmt. team (the Huvanes, same as Jen Aniston, she of the crotch shot late night talk show interview -- check these two links) say she used to send this vid on VHS out to comedy club owners to drum up gigs.

Oh, so that makes it okay? Is the entire world just going fucking crazy?

Since when is it appropriate or a good thing or an explanation for anything that some woman is sending out videos of herself fucking to get work? Add to that Handler's history of bedding Ted Harbert from E! Networks/Comcast (which I contend started after her first E! series was canceled and the second was -- surprise! -- greenlighted, and it gets even creepier.

Next I predict we'll find out how Chelsea paid for a bunch of cab rides in the 1990s when she erred and ended up on an old Taxicab Confessions. Now I get why the bag boy always brings her groceries to the car at Whole Foods. And the line of pizza delivery guys at her front door? Completely understood.

It's her currency, babe!

Posting it this way so that you'll be sure to watch, I discovered this while I was doing my last-minute Webby Awards voting.

Dock Ellis (seen left before a game getting his jherri curl on?) was a Pirates pitcher in the 70s that I actually saw pitch live at Three Rivers sometime in my teenage years. My seats were not good enough to notice if he was trippin', though I'm sure I wouldn't have had that knowledge at the time.

My grandfather, however, who I remember talking to about Timothy Leary when I was younger, could have.

This is a great clip worthy of your vote. If you could also find it in your hearts to share some love with Ben Hoffman and Brett Erlich from Current TV that would be nice, too.

I tried to give some special attention in my voting to stuff that didn't necessarily some from some high falutin' media giant.

Not a good week for Jenna Jameson. First thing that happened is I unfollowed her on Twitter. I know, she was crestfallen I'm sure that a gay man stopped reading her tweets.

(I stopped because she was starting to slam selected followers and their tweets she didn't like, which I thought for a woman worth millions was kinda lame.)

Then, she called in a domestic battery call against lover and father of her twins UFC fighter Tito Ortiz in her adopted town of Huntington Beach, CA.

Then there were allegations yesterday across the web that Jenna had a prescription pills problem.

Now it seems people are noticing that some of Jenna's adult-oriented web enterprises, including ClubJenna.com, are based in her former state of residence which happens to be Arizona.

Arizona isn't very popular with a certain segment of the nation, that segment being anti-fascists who don't think it's any American policeman's duty to "ask for your papers."

Our New Doctor Set to Play Gay in Christopher Isherwood Drama for BBC Two

Additionally, the BBC has announced that BBC Two will now be the home for BBC films produced for television. Now, about this project Christopher and His Kind (BBC Press Office):

This 90-minute film chronicles the formative years of one of the 20th century's most celebrated writers, Christopher Isherwood, based on his 1976 memoir of the same name.

Isherwood is played by Matt Smith (Doctor Who), who escapes repressive English society and his suffocating relationship with his mother (Lindsay Duncan) for the decadent – and politically unstable – world of Thirties Berlin.

The drama is written by acclaimed playwright Kevin Elyot (My Night With Reg), directed by Geoffrey Sax (Tipping The Velvet) and produced by Celia Duval (Margot) for Mammoth Screen, with Michele Buck, Kevin Elyot and Damien Timmer as executive producers. With Eleanor Moran, BBC executive producer, through Piers Wenger, Head of Drama, BBC Wales.

The drama is being made with the assistance of Northern Ireland Screen.

Lindsay Duncan you'll remember from the Doctor Who special The Waters of Mars and London theatregoers might have seen her with Smith in That Face, the Polly Stenham play, in 2007 and 2008.

#Idol Top 6 -- My Annual Return to America's Karaoke Krackup

I'm ba-a-ack!

And, quickly, let's go over the rules of how I watch American Idol. I start with the top six. I can't stand the weeks of humiliation opening event where Simon eats babies from coast to coast and the producers of the show enable crazy people who think they can be stars.

It's just not for me, it seems mean.

I also don't bother with any of the histrionics that go on in the early rounds in Hollywood. Too many to follow, like watching March Madness when you've only had access to the Pac 10 on TV all season. Just. Too. Much.

I watch some of the host-panel banter, and I did linger a little because it was my first time seeing Ellen on the show, but I try to avoid Kara, Seacrest and Cowell. I'll watch some of the mentor package that airs before the song.

I watch the song.

I don't watch the panel chat ... unless that is there's a compelling reason, like wondering what a comedian and talk host could possibly say that would add to the proceedings.

BTW, the answer to that for me is, "Not much. Not enough. And, she really looks tired."

The AFI Award-Winning Party Down Returns to Starz Tonight at 10

Yes, award winning. You might not have noticed because it happened while you weren't looking and way after season one, but AFI gave the show big props last year.

This is what the American Film Institute said about the Starz comedy series Party Down last year when they gave the show their award last year:

Party Down is television's best-kept secret. Creators John Enbom, Dan Etheridge, Paul Rudd and Rob Thomas have combined their creative talents to tell a wickedly funny tale of a catering company run by a smorgasbord of LA actor wannabes. This clever conceit has the show's devoted audience cheering for a collection of characters that flub their way through life, each depicted with real affection and an aching authenticity. Party Down knows its world and mocks it with authority, though at its significant heart, the show is a celebration of the joy and despair of aspiring to something that may never come to pass.

So, that's what you weren't watching last year but what you should be this year. I've already seen the first three episodes of this season and if I didn't strongly encourage insist demand that you watch I wouldn't be doing my job here.

Yes, the show has lost Jane Lynch to Glee, but she will return in the season finale when the cater waiters working for Alan Duk (Ken Jeong from Community, recurring) in an episode directed by Ken Marino (Ron Donald, or "f*ckstick" as he's called by his way-too-young girlfriend that he shows up with in the season's premiere tonight.

(Oh, and she's quite the piece of work ... played by a young actress that goes by the singular Aviva. Seriously, here's her IMDB page link.)

Biggest Loser's Jillian -- Bisexual, Won't Ruin Her Rockin' Bod w/Pregnancy, Equates Adoption With Dog Rescue

See, this just doesn't help her, and it doesn't help me to like her. Don't watch the show (to me it's "thank God I'm not so frackin' fat" porn) but I do see clips on The Soup, the tabloid TV shows and in promos and I've seen her commercials on TV.

 I have a serious aversion to Jillian Michaels.

Oh, I also hate when she bosses around the skinny trainer guy with the weird beard and tattoos that don't match his face nor demeanor.

Bob? Right?

Anyhow, she tells Women's Health in a recent piece (quoted by Huffpo at this link) that she has been in love with men and women and also lets them know that she won't get pregnant, can't do that to her body. She plans to adopt, and then 

"I'm going to adopt. I can't handle doing that to my body," she told the magazine. "Also, when you rescue something, it's like rescuing a part of yourself."

Rescue? You mean like at the pound? To me this sounds like something someone with a dissociative disorder, maybe Asberger's, might say.

Betcha she didn't even hear the dissonance of her word choice.

Whatev, you'll never find me sweating my ass off while she yells at me on the TV, anyway, and I don't have to watch the show. She is kind of omnipresent in the culture these days, though.

I'll just have to avert my eyes. Like I do when Campbell Brown is on the tube.

@FringeOnFox Hitting on Every Cylinder -- Preview Tonight and See Pics From the Musical Episode

I don't really know how much better you can do than Peter Weller as a time-traveling astrophysicist who bonds with Walter Bishop over their manipulation of the laws of nature to keep loved ones in their lives (watch the full episode by clicking here), but I have every good reason to believe the folks who bring us Fringe are gonna try tonight at 9 eastern on Fox.

You can read the Fox release on tonight's episode at this link at Roco's Fringebloggers.com, it's called The Man From the Other Side (preview clip for tonight's ep at this link) so it's pretty clear that we're back into the big picture mythology of the show (starting with more people with three holes in their soft palates -- shapeshifter!), ramping up no doubt to a big cliffhanger that will include the Nimoy.

And we do have a third season renewal already so there'll be time to resolve in September.

Lisa Kudrow, Getting All Mogul-y With NBC's Who Do You ..., Sells #Showtime Her Web Show

Showtime announces today that they're buying the web series Lisa Kudrow has been doing for LStudio, the programming arm (?!?!?) of the Lexus web presence. It's called Web Therapy and you can still watch the segments on the Lexus-sponsored site right now.

(Frankly, and I've said this before, the tech on the Lexus site sucks. Just sucks. If you have trouble viewing the clips I've linked to below, sorry, can't do a think about it.)

According to TV Guide.com, Kudrow will shoot some new footage to accompany the existing web show. What were 45 five- to 10-minute segments will be edited into 30-minute episodes to air on the cable network. No start date as of yet.

This comes on the heels of NBC announcing they'll do another season of her geneology series Who Do You Think You Are, a BBC format import that seems to be working here in the States. I watched the Sarah Jessica Parker episode (watch that one by clicking this link) and was pleasantly surprised at just how watchable it was (and you know I don't usually go for network unscripted fare).

Your host/producer/celeb in the UK was our pal Graham Norton.

Yes, I do realize that Henry Louis Gates has been doing a similar series on PBS for a while now. And I've enjoyed watching that, too. This show has a more pop culture-feel guest list, though.

Change$ at @Hulu Upcoming Are Not As World-$hattering as I Thought

But the change$ do involve $$$. Your $$$. And for now, it's still a win-win.

LA Times Company Town blog:

Under the proposal, Hulu would continue to provide for free the five most recent episodes of shows like Fox's "Glee," "ABC's "Lost" or NBC's "Saturday Night Live." But viewers who want to see additional episodes would pay $9.95 a month to access a more comprehensive selection, called Hulu Plus, these people said.

And it starts on May 24, which is two days before the end of May Sweeps.

To me this sounds great. Say you're feeling sorry about never seeing Lost . You could pay the just under $10 and pound them all out in a month, then cancel your subscription until you decide you need to see all the episodes of Spaced  (which you really should, it's an outstanding British sitcom starring Simon Pegg).

At least I think you could. We'll see when the date in question rolls around.

Still, that doesn't come close to matching the revenue that these companies are accustomed to raking in from their more established businesses. That's why Hulu is under pressure from its owners to collect a subscription fee to both bolster revenue and train viewers to pay for online access to professionally produced content.

Train viewers to pay for online access. That sounds like corporate indoctrination, and it's creepy and weird and smacks of totalitarianism.

Fox: "#Torchwood? No, Thanks." Now Can We Get a S4 From @BBCOne?

And the internet goes crazy with the news, most of it a wipe of the brow and a "whew" from fans of the show.

Fox has decided not to pursue a U.S. version of the UK cult hit. The network was developing a stateside version of the "Doctor Who" spinoff, a prospect which divided fans.

As to that last part, BBC Worldwide executive vp of programming and production Jane Tranter reiterated that a U.S. version was still making progress.

"It's very much ongoing and very much alive," Tranter said.

Well okay. I think the show would have been significantly corrupted by a US network anyway, though I was willing, of course, to put up with it if the show was set in Cardiff ... Cardiff-By-The-Sea, that is, a community not far from where I'm sitting right now.

I get that BBC Worldwide wanted a format sale to the US and all the money that entails, but I'm very happy having the show done by BBC Cymru (Wales) in Cardiff-not-by-the-sea, Wales with plenty of Action Gwen (you don't like Gwen? Why, she's amazing!) and Jack screwing anything that moves.

BTW, a quick look at Eve's IMDB page notes nothing new, though sometimes these British actors' pages don't get updated with alacrity.

Yeah, alacrity. 

In any event, can we please now get about the commissioning of series four? Please?

Because I think Jack and Alonso Frame (pictured above left) are finished drinking now and might like a good shag.

And if not, why not? Didn't the big UK and US numbers for Children of Earth mean anything?

WTF Happened to The Insider? Or Did Something Happen to ME?

The only entertainment news show I watch with any regularity (and still it's rare) is The Daily 10. Why? Because I think they have a better perspective of what's coming out of their mouths than any of the other shows.

It's just gossip and TV, movie and music news after all. They don't make out like their show is the most critical thing in your day. Because it isn't.

So I was just sitting here doing my morning data retrieval from all the usual sources and I heard Lara Spencer's voice in the background and turned to look at the TV (the rerun of last night's ep plays in the AM in San Diego).

What she was doing is telling Kitty Kelley, the author of the new unauthorized Oprah Winfrey bio that the show has been purposely ignoring the book altogether "out of respect for Oprah."

Couldn't be because Oprah's show and The Insider are stablemates at CBS' syndie arm, could it? Lara, we're smarter than that. You shouldn't lie to people who take the time to click over to your show.

Then, the guy on the show (have no idea who he is, don't care, generically handsome brown-haired guy for those of you following along) pulls out his iPad (his iPad, as if we're not all sick of THAT) and shows us a pap pic of Jessica Simpson walking with a handbag, which he zooms in on with that spreading-the-fingers thing that the iPad does.

I'm thinking ... I'm not supposed to be looking at Jessica at all, am I. But I do wanna go back to the Apple Store now and look at that damned thing again.

(Product placement on a gossip show? As the old Jewish woman who inhabited Phoebe Buffay for an episode of Friends said at the lesbian wedding, "Now I've seen everything." Watch the clip by clicking here.)

Also they have Niecy Nash (who used to be an actress/comedian I enjoyed on Reno 911 but is now just a TV whore -- she'll jump on any show. ANY. show.) reporting on her own appearance on that frickin' dancing show on ABC to which I just don't understand the attraction.

And then of course they started talking Kate Gosselin. I still don't get why this woman gets more ink than our Sec'y of State. And if she ends of being ABC's next Bachelorette I think that child protective services in the state of PA should be called.

Is it me, or has the entire world gone off the rails?

My advice for these shows? Do the interviews, promote the shows, get over your self-importance and stop making me wanna buy stuff that cost way more than the $499 they say it does (when you factor in the bigger drive and additional memory that you really need to make it fly).

Back to the show itself, we don't need to be listening to you people getting all in each others' faces about this celebrity bullshit that makes no difference to anyone for any reason. Lara, don't you feel like a fool doing this? There's not a better place for you to be plying your broadcast skills?

@Spartacus_Starz Ends in Blood-tastic Splendor, Return Date TBD, Possible Prequel?

You could knock me over with a feather. Or a feather boa, even. I just never thought I'd hang with pay cabler Starz' swords and sandals series Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

Pictures of almost naked muscle guys all sweaty and dirty and loinclothed are one thing, me actually hanging with a series about gladiators through the season finale -- and then looking forward to more -- that's quite another thing.

And sure, it helps that those almost naked muscle guys kept sweating and getting dirty and fighting and struggling, their glistening limbs entwined in ...

... Sorry, got a little worked up. What I mean to say is that the visuals were, like , WOW! But then I really got into the story, didn't blink twice at all the blood which I thought would be an issue, got caught up in the relationships and all the intrigue, imagined Viva Blanca's Ilithyia as a drag queen (that made it a hoot!), enjoyed Lucy Lawless and John Hannah chewing the scenery like she hadn't eaten in weeks (Jupiter's Cock that was fun) and I was hooked.

I was a little disconcerted with the early death of the man-loving Barca. It seems the gay guy always gets the axe first -- Ianto from Torchwood, Felix from Battlestar, Blue Jay from the Justice League ...

Here's hoping we'll see some more sexual diversity come next season. But what about next season? As Andy Whitfield gets treated for non-Hodgkins lymphoma there's talk that's originated on New York Magazine's Vulture Blog (it should be a daily destination for you) of a prequel to the series getting talked about at Starz.

(Nothing from the person who tweets on behalf of the show yet, I've asked.)

The ratings have been outstanding for Starz, which reportedly has only 17 million subscribers compared to "very large number" for HBO. They scored a 1.2 rating a couple weeks ago and ended the run in fine fashion (per Adalian at The Wrap).

Of course, there are scores of dead characters now ... not gonna mention who they are -- spoilers -- but there's a lot of casting to do for next go-round, too. LOTS of casting.

(I volunteer to personally tour the gyms of Australia and New Zealand looking for gladiators, btw.)

Here's hoping we get Andy and the show back in fine condition. Doesn't really matter when, just bring back all the great stuff that made season one such a good time.

Are You Romantically Challenged? Alyssa's New Sitcom Opens 2Night

At the NPR Monkey See blog:

ABC is premiering a new Alyssa Milano comedy called Romantically Challenged (9:32 p.m.) after Dancing With The Stars (8:00 p.m.), and I'd love to tell you more about it, but after originally acting like they were going to make a screener available, they ... didn't. We shall have to see.

Yeah, ABC, what of it? I tried to watch the screener online but it wouldn't work for me, Daniel Fienberg at HitFix had issues, many others, too.

(I thought it was my password issues with ABC's press site rearing their ugly collective head, but I guess I was wrong.)

And like Daniel, I like Ricky Blitt, too. He's the creator of the show, avid Los Angeles non-driver and former Family Guy scribe. Of course it's illegal to claim American citizenship and not love Alyssa Milano, too, who stars as one of a group of Pittsburgh singles that have issues finding that great love.

Okay, so you don't buy that Alyssa's character Rebecca would have trouble finding a boyfriend? Me neither. Why, because she looks just like Alyssa Milano.

But then she opens her mouth on dates and says things like this (clip).

ABC's giving the show a prime spot after DWTS tonight, and so you'd think they'd be hopeful, but no screening of the pilot makes me hesitant.

Still, it's a multi -camera comedy with familiar faces and what I think is a solid writer behind them, so I'll take a look tonight, 9:32 pm eastern after that frickin' dancing show and before Castle (with a guest shot from BSG's Michael Trucco -- yum) which you should be watching even without my prompting.

GLAAD Media Awards Video -- Adam Lambert, Cynthia Nixon, Hair, Joy Behar

That's Adam Lambert at the Los Angeles event over the weekend above, wearing what he tells us are vintage sunglasses. Vintage because they were fashioned from the front windshield of a 1955 Buick? Is Larry King missing his shades?

Even in Oklahoma, where McVeigh committed the crime that led to his execution, they're talking about raising a militia to combat THE UNITED STATES.

That's ... a crime. And punishable. And the potential criminals here are members of the Oklahoma State Legislature.

And 'd give you a taste, but apparently Gay Times doesn't want you to read for free, they want you to actually go to a store and buy their magazine ... can you imagine?

(Actually, that's possibly the only way magazines can stay in business ... but my suggestion to them is to give you at least a little more than this page at GT provides.)

Joss Circling New Gig -- D'oh, It's Not an Avengers UK TV Thing, It's a Superhero Thing

So I've been reading online about the possibility of Joss Whedon getting this new gig rewriting the script and directing a film version of The Avengers ... and getting really excited.

Because Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman really didn't cut it for me. Sorry, Ralph, you can have Liam release the Kraken on me now.

Anyhow, been very excited about Joss getting a shot at this and whistling a happy tune to myself as I spot the various tweets and headlines ... and then, this (The Wrap):

"The Avengers" is the movie Marvel has been building toward for years, billing it as the ultimate superhero movie. It will unite a virtual all-star team of superheroes such as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton?), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and SHIELD leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

What?  Oh frack, my lack of history with comic books gets me again. Damn Marvel Universe!

Well, since I brought it up why not a new TV version of the show? There are plenty of networks that could do it both here and in the UK and I'm for one ready for some smart tv with a side of sexy. I mean, Castle's only on once a week.

How about cable? What about FX or USA or TNT? Who would you cast?

First, about tonight's episode ... Laura and Sarah are butting heads with competing Holocaust memorials in Valley Village. Why? I have no idea, but I'm sure that there will be lots of squirmy comedic goodness squeezed from this piece of fruit.

He told TV Squad a couple days ago that he thinks it's the final episode.

Now, I broached the issue of this being the final go-round for the show last week. To recap, time change (after midnight) and way out there storylines are a tip that it might be the bitter end. Obviously I wasn't the only person thinking such because there are some Save This Show efforts going on.

Most notably (because NY Mag's Vulture blog mentioned it) this Twitter account.

Ad Buyers Preview #TLC's #SarahPalin's Alaska, Then Laugh, Snicker & Shake Their Heads

From Andy Denhart's great blog Reality Blurred comes a compendium of commentary about the upfront presentation from Discovery/TLC that included a promo for the show:

An anonymous Discovery Communications source told The Huffington Post that “the whole thing [was] comical” and “When the promo was over, people (employees and buyers) were rolling their eyes, snickering, and even laughing. People were laughing and it’s not even a comedy. No one took it seriously.” Thus, it will get “a crappy time slot” and “Bottom line everyone thought it was a new all time low for Discovery. My guess is the show is going to tank big time.”

Wow, talk about a guy trying to sink his storied reputation as a TV exec in one paragraph, huh? Ligouri, formerly of Fox Broadcasting (the non-political wing) is responsible for the rise of the FX cable network and took the job over in January from Mark Hollinger who rose to chief exec of Discovery Channel Int'l.

For the record, the only campaign contribution I can find from Ligouri is to former not-too-progressive Dem congressman Harold Ford, for only $300.

Of course, this show pickup has ignited wrath in the hearts of fans of Discovery Networks and TLC, and you can read more about that at the Palingates blog (yes, that's plural, you gotta have an entire website to document the sketchy activities of this $12 million woman) at this link. I think they go a bit far, but it's interesting reading anyway.

That shock of brown hair next to the Asian guy is Matt Smith. The guy on the other side and behind  the Asian guy, with the arrow pointing at him, is Toby at Inner Toob, one of my favorite blogs.

Clip Bonanza -- New Glee Tonight After Idol at 9:28 Eastern (DVR Timing Alert)

Yes, they are back. Sure, sure, visit the White House (clip) and Oprah (clip) and whoever else you want on your off time, just get back in time to suck from that American Idol ratings teat while building to your season one finale.

Starts tonight at the interesting time of 9:28 eastern, make sure your DVR and cable grid have the right specs or you'll be missing tasty morsels.

And, considering who's been added to the mix, it should be a good one. My girl Idina Menzel, lookin' all hot and busty here below gets into the action quickly (you'll see, no spoilers here) and Jonathan Groff (Broadway's Spring Awakening, one of Zach Braff's favorite shows) playing Jesse St. James, a more confident male version of Rachel getting all musically and romantically up in her business, but maybe not in a good way.

And Sue. Back from Boca, refreshed and resurgent, she has her two Cheerios playing fast and loose and lesbianic on poor flustered Finn at what looks like an Olive Garden (can't be sure, could also be Applebee's, they all look the same to me).

Will's got his own entanglements, too with a new one (no spoilers) on top of Emma, and they seem to be preventing him from getting ... on top of Emma.

Yes, a lot of it's a reset ... it is the first episode back, though, and you need to get back into the swing of the show. The musical numbers are solid if maybe slightly uninspired, but keep to it because next week we get all Madonna tracks (remember her ... older woman, used to be American but I think she's British now or maybe something else ... was relevant for a long time until we got a look at her veiny, twisted up hands and everyone started thinking of her as old) with a preview of such tonight as Jane Lynch stars as Sue Sylvester in what I hear is a shot-by-shot remake of the Vogue video (click here to see the original).

Imagine You're Running All Over the World Touting #Progressive Causes (and #JonVoight Is Your Dad)?

What would you do? What could you do?

I'm not in the business of feeling sorry for Angelina Jolie, certainly she's been fortunate in a number of ways and has purportedly worked hard to get where she is (though acting is still nowhere close to working in a Massey Energy coal mine).

And even if you still kinda think that she very methodically went about lifting someone's husband from them on a movie set (which I still kinda do, I may be wrong but I'll always kinda believe that) you have to respect what she's doing in the international marketplace of ideas and policy.

She does good works. And that's a good thing.

Then, she comes home from all that and clicks over to the Huffington Post Entertainment homepage and sees that her frickin' crazy ass dad screaming on Mike Huckabee's Fox Noise show that our President is "raping this nation."

And you know she's gonna end up being in the same room as the President sometime soon and can you imagine yourself hangin' with Barack after your dad said something like this?

One thing I have over Angelina, my father would never embarrass me in front of the President and the world.

#DoctorWho Fans, Our Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey Show is in Great Hands

The Doctor Who episode that opens the program's fifth series borrows a gimmick from another of the show's episodes from series two called The Girl in the Fireplace. Said gimmick gives our Doctor, now in his 11th incarnation thanks to one Matt Smith, an instant backstory with his new companion, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan).

And it works. And don't blame Steve Moffat too much for the theft, he's stealing from a great Doctor Who writer ... named Steve Moffat.

What I have to say to devout fans of the show is this ... there is nothing to worry about, the Doctor and TARDIS are in fine hands, impressive hands, might I even say perfect hands at this point in the show's regenesis.

And I'll say more things, things that might be a little spoilery, after the jump. Trying not to give away anything major, just enough to light up your sonic screwdriver.

Hey Poizner and Whitman, I've seen your ads claiming that liberal failure is to blame for the state's problems. Exactly how do you figure that? Which liberals and what failure are you talking about, because the way I see it we'd be in much better shape if the people of California realized that you don't get services for free and Prop 13 has held the state way back, especially in terms of how we deliver education to the state's kids.

Is This The Final Season of The Sarah Silverman Program?

I ask because ...

a) The storylines this season are soooooooo out there, and ...

b) The time period change for Sarah  and Demetri, throwing them past midnight on Thursdays instead of the 10 pm hour.

But mostly because of the storylines. Then again, the show has always been really really out there so I'm not entirely sure of anything. I think I read a tweet from Sarah the other day referencing the "final season" of the show, but then I couldn't find it again.

Last week, Steve and Brian had a robot baby (click here and watch the clip) that died in a hail of federal gunfire (seriously). This week, Steve tells his parents he's gay and when they don't take the news well Sarah suggests some, uh, medical intervention (LSD being the medicine in question).

(Oh, also last week we found out Laura has a thing for gay fisting porn and Jay loves it when model trains drive up his butt. I could not be more serious. Watch it for yourself ... LINK.)

In fact, it seems like everyone on this show likes something that has to do with ass except Brian and Steve, ironically. And I like Brian and Steve because they most accurately represent the kind of gay man I am. I've never seen gay men depicted on TV that comes as close to being me as these two.

I'll miss that if it goes away.

Orson Bean, still working, and on the most cutting edge of comedies, so cutting edge I'm wondering if it's being canceled.

Because all the good stuff gets canceled. I'm still pissed about NewsRadio, and it's years ago now.

I think the possibility of Sarah's show being canceled just makes it more watchable, because with no renewal in the mix I presume they'll just go balls out and get some amazingly perversely funny stuff on screen.

BTW, I want a robot baby, too.

Video -- Meet @WilfredTheDog, Visiting From Australia, on IFC

The secret of this very cute doggie pictured above is that he's a very good dog and not a candidate for Cesar Millan or any other behaviorist to come in and fuss around with his living situation.

His name is Wilfred and he lives with Sarah. He used to live with Sarah and Mark, but then Mark left and took all the fun and the joy with him and Wilfred, rightfully, got hurt.

I think that's why Wilfred smokes too much weed. (Click here and watch this clip from the premiere episode, now.)

Mark probably never really even said goodbye, you know how men can be. And now there's this new guy, Adam, and he's such a wanker.

If we were to be brutally honest about it all, and I don't suggest that on your first visit with Wilfred, but if we were to be honestly we'd have to note that Sarah is not the best companion for a nice dog like him.

 She's a little flightly, kinda moody, doesn't really tell the men what she wants or needs (in my humble opinion), and she doesn't seem to understand, for example, that when you're with Adam and you run into Mark's friends it's probably not a good idea to, uh, linger.

And it's probably also not a good idea to tie Wilfred to a picnic table while you go inside and have a beer, not when it's Wilfred. Wilfred doesn't like those No Dogs Allowed signs (it's just racism, right?) and you can't expect him to sit quietly in front of a place that taunts him with the soft bigotry of ... signs!

Can you?

So, that's the deal. You got Sarah, her dog Wilfred, the new guy Adam, and I think you'll be surprised at how the dynamic plays out.

Wilfred is the creation of Adam Zwar and Jason Gann, Gann being a guy in the suit. It's dry, acerbic, a little twisted ... and ultimately satisfying. Based on the short film of the same name the two made that won Tropfest, purportedly the world's biggest short film festival, it airs on SBS in Australia and it's second season is airing currently there. We have season one episodes, eight of them, to digest.

IFC says on air that there's a marathon of episodes running this Saturday, but the IFC website says otherwise. I would suggest you set your DVR to record the show, by title, and see what you get. And if you're really interested, just record whatever your cable guide says is running Sat. afternoon on IFC and see what you get.

It's worth it, the show is certainly an antidote to the joke-heavy ham-handed TV comedy that we see a lot on American television.

Oh, and the language ... apparent the F-word isn't banned from Australian TV, so be aware of that. Despite this being a show featuring an adult in a dog costume, it's not for your kids.

The Annual Ritual -- Shows On the Bubble and the People Who Love Them

It's that time of year. TV fans lay in their beds at night imagining the big bad network executive wielding his axe, spying that fan's favorite show from a distance, approaching, keenly aware of the environment that surrounds.

Stalking, peering through overnights and production cost projections. Rooting through contracts, commitments, story arcs looking for something, anything to wave at the Gods and Goddesses of Television hoping for a sign of potential profitability, the economic thumbs up, if you will.

E!'s Kristin is overseeing a Save One Show campaign that has one of my favorites, Better Off Ted, leading shows in the running. It would be a lovely thing if Ted were to return, there's already plenty of other web resources for saving BOT, too, including SaveBetterOffTed.com to which I've previously linked.

(I would love that to happen, but I'm not so sure it can. I would love to be horribly wrong, though.)

At Wondercon this past weekend, Chuck fanatics saw tonight's episode (8 pm eastern, NBC, here's the preview clip) and Zach Levi told the crowd and TVByTheNumbers.com proprietor Robert Seidman the best way to save that show is to watch it live and not on your DVR.

The Los Angeles Times is talking about the prospect of Damages going the Friday Night Lights route with a first run exclusive to DirecTV.

As a member in decent standing of the Robot Skeleton Army it's my duty today to mention the fine folk at Lollipop Theatre (LINK) an "organization dedicated to bringing the magic of movies currently in theaters to children confined to hospitals nationwide due to chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Our goal is to create a fun escape from the daily reality of the illnesses these children face and to offer them and their families a moment of normalcy in an otherwise stressful environment."

Are These Exclusive Images of #DoctorWho Actor Tom Hopper (Jeff)? No, But He's Naked!

Yeah, he's all wet, too. Didn't mention that? My bad.

Brits saw Tom Hopper play Amy's childhood friend Jeff Saturday night in the Doctor Who series five premiere, but they probably know him already from a bunch of TV appearances there, including Casualty, Kingdom (the Stephen Fry series from ITV) and they'll see him upcoming in the World War II British film Grace and Danger.

You know her, you've loved her, you've been perplexed by her, embarassed for her, you've seen her love and lose, come back from the brink, and most of all you've heard her voice manipulated beyond recognition with all kinds of computer devices, but she's still Britney and you still seem to care.

So, today, click over to Fuse where she's taking over. Now this takeover will be a little different from the Lady Gaga takeover, which as much as I love all things Gaga was kind of limited by the amount of content there is out there.

(Meaning: I watched the same clips over and over and over and ... well, you get the point. Loved them and I love her, but didn't need to see them that many times in one day.)

There's more Britney content out there so I'm guessing it'll be less repetitive. Watch the promo and decide for yourself (LINK).

One thing about this, I'm not sure why the promo push today, it doesn't seem that she has any new product coming out.l Whatev, I'm sure a lot of you are already tuning in automatically.

iPad: Is There Porn?

Just a thought I've been having about all the iPad furor and where and how the tech will progress. We know for a fact that adult content drives technology. We have enough evidence of it.

If content on the iPad will be controlled by who Apple sells an app licensing agreement to, and they are averse to selling to companies that deal in adult content, will the tech of the iPad progress as quickly as tech on the traditional computer platform?

For me this is all moot, of course. I don't have an iPhone and I don't plan on getting an iPad. I like the democratization of the web as we know it. I don't want one company, even the company that I buy the gadget from, telling me what I can look at and what I can't.

Also, the closest I get to watching porn these days is Spartacus on Starz.

Apple has heard plenty from people who certainly don't have my best interests at heart. There was in fact a group of shareholders who don't even want Apple to sell episodes of Two And A Half Men because it's too dirty.

If they have a problem with that, how big a prob will they have with the Club Jenna or Vivid Video apps that could be selling like hotcakes to iPad owners?

AppleInsider.com reported late last month that "Links to new 'explicit software' categories in iTunes indicate that Apple plans to finally deliver adult content for both the iPad and for existing iPhone OS devices, segregated from other content with parental controls in the same way that iTunes has long sold music with explicit lyrics."

I can't find such links at iTunes, though. Have you?

Vivid Entertainment founder and co-chairman Steven Hirsch told us that his company has been preparing for the launch as well. “Vivid will have its entire library available on the iPad,” he said, adding: “We are working on this now and it will be available very shortly.” Competitor Digital Playground recently told the adult industry publication Xbiz that it has already completed the conversion process for all of its catalog. Websites run by Digital Playground will automatically recognize iPad users and serve up h.264 HD videos.

And of course I would be remiss in commenting that if there's a hurdle in getting porn on your iPad, there will more than likely be an even bigger hurdle getting gay porn on your iPad. Unless it's two hot chicks doing each other. Because straight guys rule the world.

(And don't get me started again on why straight guys just love girl-on-girl, suffice to say I believe it comes from the moment of recognition while watching straight porn when a guy realized he's hard and looking at a penis onscreen and his brain explodes into gay panic.)

Video -- V Exec Prod Scott Rosenbaum Sells His Show, Hard

I'm sure he's a perfectly nice guy and has the best interests of his management team and the network at heart, but watching this clip from Scot Rosenbaum posted by ABC on YouTube (click here) makes me feel like I'm buying a suit at the Men's Wearhouse from some underemployed Zig Zigglar-type just back from a seminar featuring Terry Bradshaw and our previous President.

Dude, calm down, we're watching. Okay, I should say we're still watching. I have issues with the show, but I'm watching.

I find it interesting though, with V and with FlashForward (clip from last week's show by clicking here), that both shows are ramping up the physical conflict after somewhat lackluster ratings  during their fall runs on the network. And of course, the operative similarity here is that ABC is the company giving both productions notes.

So will conflict save these shows? Do these two stories only require the addition of gunplay to transform into hits? 

I think the best of the genre stories ramp up the excitement with story and performance, not loud noises and blood.
