Here's the first show out of the gate for the rebranded cable channel. Apparently this Syfy spelling isn't going away and they spent a lot of money on designing the logo and running it by focus groups far and wide, so let's try not to get too bogged down in the stupidity that is the rebranding and get you into the show.
For me, Warehouse 13 IS Saul Rubinek. You might remember him as Daphne Moon's left-at-the-altar guy from Frasier, but he's been making outstanding television for a long time in both the States and Canada.
But we'll get to Saul in a bit.
For you the show is probably more about the idea that there's a warehouse in South Dakota that needs two federal agents. Why? Because there's stuff there that need guarding, and there's more stuff out there that needs to be collected.
What stuff? All kinds of stuff, stuff that does stuff. Did stuff. Supernatural stuff.
I know what you're thinking, if you're a fan of the genre. This sounds like a lot of other shows. And, I guess you're right. But the tone is different than, say, Torchwood (much lighter) and the artifacts aren't alien, or at least they're not believed to be.
After engaging with one of these items in the field while guarding the President, Agents Pete Lattimer and Myka Bering are ordered to South Dakota. They're reluctant, it doesn't seem like a choice gig.
And that's where Artie (Rubinek) comes in. He's the keep of the flame at the warehouse, and as mysterious as the powers that these artifacts possess. He's a little bit librarian, a little bit Mr. Fix-It and a whole lot of enigma wrapped in a puzzle wrapped in bacon and deep fried.
In other words, keep your eye on him. The agents certainly are trying to do the same.
That's all you really need to know before you check in. Watch the trailer after the jump for more and watch the actual show tonight on Syfy (AAARRRRGH, worst marketing EVER!).
