The Adweek story says that in 2009 they estimate consumers will pay $3.8 billion to watch video on the web.
Indeed, even as Hulu and other premium ad-supported video sites surge in popularity, Strategy Analytics sees paid video growing faster than free video over the next several years, at a rate of 39 percent annually through 2012 vs. 37 percent for ad-supported video.
Why? They say the recession is helping. Well, how antithetical of them.
Are they counting porn? If they are I guess I get it. I'm never paid for porn online, either. Or via video-on-demand, and my cable system even has gay porn on demand.
Netflix and the online options of other companies are mentioned, but how many of you are really watching Netflix movies on your computers. Seriously. I'd like to know.
I can't imagine not being able to wait the day or two until the DVD comes in the mail and watching it on my 40" Sony Bravia.
