And I have to say that it's worth discussing. Really worth discussing. Hat tip to Hibberd.
Reasons?
1) It's a great clip -- You'll see it after the jump for yourself but this is some great stuff. And who doesn't love seeing Los Angeles being attacked from outer space, huh?
2) It's a sci fi show on a big network.
3) That big network is NBC and there is already plenty of discussion about how the show will die on the vine, including this comment at QuietEarth.us, the site that broke the clip on the web:
4) It's from Jesse Alexander (that's him with the very very cool glasses here to the right) who got very publicly canned from Heroes (same network) last year, and some have said in a very sacrificial lamb kind of way.
5) Finally, we'd all like to think we've been chosen for something, right? Well, these people have been chosen. By who? Watch the clip.
And, also after the jump, listen to what Alexander has to say about the show in a clip from Hulu.
Some of the action in the preview clip reminds me of the first episode of the BBC series Survivors (soon on BBC America) in tone, but I have a sense Day One will veer off dramatically from that as it progresses.
The show isn't scheduled till early 2010. Things change, though, and I'll keep you in the loop.
So, a post-apocalyptic show for NBC on Monday nights at 9? Really? Against Two And A Half Men and The Big Bang Theory, whose audiences skew somewhat male? I dunno, we'll see. Like I said, things change.
Oh, and I'm adding Quiet Earth, "Dedicated to genre film and all things post apocalyptic ... We're fans first, journalists second," to the blogroll. Great site, go visit.
