I know, you're saying to yourself, "Joe, you don't like The Biggest Loser or Dancing With the Stars, so what the hell are you doing writing about this show?"
Three words .... Lisa Ann Walter. You know her from films and TV and some of the top comedy clubs in the country.
See her? She's right there to the left of what you're reading right now, her and that fabulous heinie of hers. And you know how she keeps that heinie perky? Dancing. Not just in that Jennifer Lopez movie that my dad's mouth waters during, but in actual ballroom contests, too. And now, she's not only the producer of this show, she's also one of the judges.
And did I mention the fabulous heinie?
You see, there are few things in life that a gay man likes more than a fabulous woman, but one of them is a fabulous FUNNY woman. So, she and I hit it off right away back when I met her at the NBC Summer Press event.
(The bulk of the press headed toward host Marissa Jaret Winokur after the panel, but I went directly to the funny lady, because I'm good like that. You'll remember my writing about that at the time at this link.)
Since we've met I've heard from her, from the set of the currently filming Ashton Kutcher-Katherine Heigl movie Five Killers where she was holed up on set in a trailer and clicking around the net.
I mean, who does that -- sending an email to a blogger saying nice things about the blog after meeting them once at a press thing? Almost no one.
Now, although I would rather see funny women being funny all the time than see them produce unscripted programming for cable, apparently some funny women want to do more, and I'm good with that, as long as they continue to be funny while they're in process. I'm pretty sure you'll see some funny coming from Lisa Ann during this series, but that's not all.
About the show, from their site:
And this is the reason I'm watching tonight at 10 on Oxygen ... when Lisa Ann talked about the journey that these contestants took over the course of the show I could see her eyes welling up with tears. And that clinched the deal.
Tonight, 10 pm, Oxygen. And, there's more at TV.com including clips. I have a preview clip as well, and it's after the jump.
