Video -- Owen Harper, M.D., R.I.P. / Now That Was Some Good Torchwood

Torch_martha_welcome

So, much better than the Adam episode last week, especially the non-specific nature of where Adam came from and that ridiculous go to church moment in the conference room with Jack handing out retcon like it was the host and he was the pope. That just creeped me out.

This was this show at it's best, I think, and it doesn't look like Martha is going anywhere anytime soon, what with Owen deceased (hey, you people who know something, go with it, don't spoil stuff for the less rabid fan) there's gonna have to be someone to perform a post-mortem.

And Alan Dale was great, huh?  He 's the guy that I would choose to play anyone accused of corporate malfeasance, he has that monied yet sleazy acting r0le market tied up.

Nice to see some more of fun, cruisy, jokey Jack Harkness, too.  Though Ianto's certainly more suitable to introduce to one's parents, yes?

I have a few pics courtesy BBC America after the jump. And they're very excited that we are so excited about the show.

Oh, and I have a preview of the next episode.

Dirt's Malan Carlton: "I Am a Brand!"

Yeah, you're a brand, if that brand is rich girl who doesn't suffer, doesn't sweat, doesn't really have to work for anything, who gets paid to breathe.

Dirt returns tomorrow night at 10 on FX.

Buying a New HDTV for March Madness?

Who_march_madness

Because you gotta read this if you are.

You guys know I've been shopping and ultimately buying a new bigscreen, so I'm been running into a lot of people out at the stores who were buying for the NCAAs which start this month, because not all of you are gonna be able to get to San Antonio for the Final Four.

Now, I know that you don't immediately think of me or this blog when you think March Madness, but if you think about it, Martha Jones and the Doctor do as much running as anyone so I'm interested in refresh rates and such as well.

(I also know that's not a pic above of a college basketball player, it's John Amaechi, the former Orlando Magic player who is the first former NBA player to come out. Hopefully, he gave someone the motivation to be the first current NBA player to come out, that would be a good thing.)

Retrevo, the website that matches people with electronics, has some ideas on how to make you feel more like you're there live in person.

I Am A TV Junkie Theatre Presents ... A Great Partridge Family Episode

Partridge_family With special guest star Michael Ontkean.

From CmonGetHappy.com:

Tall, handsome Lester Braddock transfers to Keith and Laurie's high school and within two weeks he has taken out half the girls and developed quite a reputation. Keith and the other boys are having fits! Meanwhile, Laurie comes home very excited one day and announces that Lester has asked her out.

In March of 1971 when this episode first aired on ABC, the nation was prepping for Ali-Frazier at Madison Square Garden, the Manson trial was in full swing, there was unrest in Pakistan (some things never change) and America was still talking about the bomb that the Weather Underground planted in the men's room at the US Capitol.

But there was still time for some frothy pop-tinged comedy. I had the albums, but I always told people they belonged to my sister.

After the jump, The Partridge Family episode Not With My Sister, You Don't.

Video -- Ashley Johnson Plays Britney Doppelganger on Dirt

Johnson I gotta tell ya, they packed this seven episode season that starts this Sunday on FX with every tabloid story they could find.

Also included this season are bits that are reminiscent of the Alec Baldwin phone call and Anna Nicole Smith, not to mention the beforementioned storyline with a TV version of Paris Hilton.

You remember Ashley Johnson, she was the youngest Seaver on Growing Pains and Mel Gibson's daughter in What Women Want, and now she'll play a pop tart with a husband, kids, and apparently a problem with Lucy Spiller's Dirt Now magazine.

You can see a clip with her, Courteney and Ian Hart after the jump.

So Now Scrubs Isn't Moving to ABC? What?

Scrubs

You network types have to get it together. Sheesh, I just wrote about this last night.

It seems like maybe ABC jumped the gun or NBC didn't speak up fast enough or maybe there was just a misunderstanding, but there were a lot of people at the Peacock, including apparently the Peacock guy himself (Silverman) who were surprised when they saw James Hibberd's Hollywood Reporter piece that I mentioned last night.

Today, there's another Hibberd story that goes something like this:

Veteran comedy "Scrubs" is caught in a tug-of-war between NBC and ABC.

ABC is in negotiations to pick up 18 episodes of the series from ABC Studios, which has produced the comedy for NBC since 2001.

NBC brass are said to have been caught off guard when THR.com broke the story Thursday.

A network insider said NBC is still in "first negotiation period" -- a period of exclusive negotiations -- with ABC Studios.

ABC Studios chose not to respond.

More after the jump.

Ms. Heigl, Shelley Long on Line One With A Message For You

Heigl

And that message would probably be, "Don't be an ass, stay on your mega-rated primetime show."

The National Enquirer, of all sources, is reporting that big blondie (my dad calls her that) is lookin' to get outta that Grey's Anatomy contract that she just renegotiated so that she can do more movies like 27 Dresses Knocked Up (let's face it, the former didn't hit anywhere near the way her Apatow comedy did).

From Monsters & Critics:

“Katherine has even suggested to ‘Grey’s’ producers that they kill her character Dr. Izzie Stevens in dramatic fashion so her exit could bring in huge ratings,” a pal of the 29-year-old Emmy winner told The Enquirer. Newly married to rocker Josh Kelley and riding high on her box-office appeal, Katherine has formed a production company with her mother Nancy, whos her manager, and she’s being swamped with movie offers, said the pal.

"Shallow As A Birdbath" -- Who Dare Slam the New Oprah Reality Show?

Oprah_nate

Why, it's our pal Ray Richmond, who is a very brave guy (or just doesn't care if a phalanx of housewives from the Valley descent on his well-appointed condo and boil his bunny).

He says:

Because the ABC series operates under the high-minded guise of bringing life rescue and joy to people in need, it's actually even more disturbing than those shows claiming no similarly socially redeeming purpose.

While the recipients of this largesse no doubt truly benefit in a format that's one part "Queen for a Day" and one part "The Amazing Race," the question must be asked early on: Is it worth being exploited as a quasi-pathetic charity case on national television, replete with on-cue manipulative sappy music and photo ops choreographed by editors seemingly in the throes of epileptic seizure, to gain that helping hand?

Rashida Jones on Unhitched -- She's Dating the Air Guitar Guy

And what do we know about the air guitar guy?

Loser

(My apologies to Jason Biggs, the image is from a movie of his. )

That's right. I don't care how hot the guy is, if he's the featured air guitarist, I have to suggest backing away from the stage and identifying all the emergency exits.

Unhitched debuts Sunday at 9:30, after an all-new Family Guy on Fox. And I have a couple clips in a custom player from YouTube after the jump.
