Funny Women I Love: "And You Are Gina?"

Well, she's Mo Collins from Mad TV, but actually, it's pronounced Gyna.

And, Mindy Kaling and Paul Rudd fight. A clip from The 40-Year-Old Virgin, just because it's Saturday and I can.

Not for work, your kids, or Sister Natividad.

Do You Know What You Get When You Make Fun of the Stuff in Your Bulk Email Folder?

You get a lot more stuff to make fun of, actually to the tune of over 200 of them an hour.

Which is why I've just deleted an entire post.

I just didn't think writing a post about the floppy johnson category of pills and how they're sold online would elicit so much from the unwanted email community.

I'm picking my words carefully this time, I figure it's a search bot that's my nemesis.

The Atlantic's Britney Cover? The Atlantic? Really?

Brit_pap

Yes, The Atlantic. Really. And the story is written by the husband of friend of the blog Virginia Heffernan of the NY Times, who writes the remarkably good and sometimes too classy for me to read column The Medium in the NY Times Magazine and its corresponding blog. His name is David Samuels.

It starts:

"Britney Spears beat up my truck, bald-headed and everything,” Dano tells me as we lurk on the Valley side of Mulholland Drive in his silver Ford Explorer, which became famous when the out-of-control pop star attacked it with an umbrella. The night is darker than usual, owing to smoke from over a dozen wildfires that are burning as close as Malibu and around Lake Arrowhead. The air is so bad that several paparazzi have gone home sick. We are waiting for a white two-seater Mercedes SL65, Britney’s turbo-powered sports car, or the black Audi driven by her friend Sam Lufti.

The story is about X17, the paparazzi company. And it's a fascinating look behind what happens in celebrity news and gossip.

Yes, The Atlantic is changing, but it will still be the journalistic beacon that it has been since my Mom started getting the magazine when I was in junior high.

Bubble, Bubble, TV Shows Toiling for Ratings in Trouble

Braff

James Hibberd wrote a piece at the Reporter yesterday about the shows on the bubble, those that might just not make it to another season in the sun.

A complete list of shows already picked up, those pending pickup and that nasty bubble that could pop all over your favorite show is at this link.

Of the shows I like there is How I Met Your Mother (despite the Britney guester, not because of it you haters), Jericho & Scrubs (though the ABC v. NBC war is still being waged).

About Scrubs ... well, more precisely about Zach (pictured), he has not touched his blog since September 26 last year.

Click here to give him some grief about that.

Les Moonves Stands Up For The Older Demo, Talks About a Career in Politics

Variety:

Playing to the pinstriped crowd during a wide-ranging Thursday sesh at the McGraw Hill media conference in Gotham, Moonves criticized the TV biz's incessant focus on courting younger viewers.

"The only upscale 18-year-olds I know are my children, and they have to come to me if they want to buy a car. It's a bullshit demographic, forgive me," he said, "that they're the ones with the discretionary income, and the 50-year-old is thrown in the garbage. It's one of the great old wives' tales."

Of course, he has reason to say that, CBS has traditionally skewed older than the other nets. But he's right about the big ticket items, certainly, and I'm not so sure that in this age of having to be a wary consumer (lead paint from China, downer cows from Chino) that we are so swayed by advertising messages, whether we are young or old.

Political aspirations after the jump.

Will Christian Slater Be on Your TV This Fall? Maybe

Slater Check out his IMDB page, the movie roles aren't coming like they used to, so I'm guessing that's why he's attached to this project.

Hollywood Reporter:

Sources said NBC is close to handing out a series order to an untitled drama from writer-producer Jason Smilovic starring Slater in what would be the actor's first TV series.

The project -- from Universal Media Studios, where Smilovic has an overall deal -- originally was developed as a feature at Fox several years ago. It is described as "The Bourne Identity" meets "Jekyll & Hyde" and centers on a mild-mannered suburban dad (Slater) who learns that his alter ego is a spy.

NBC declined comment.

Slater's looking for a Kiefer Sutherland moment for his waning career and he might have found it. This sounds like something that people will enjoy. Not me, but people, you know, other people.

I'm not so big on the shoot 'em up. I like to laugh and be amazed, but guns aren't my idea of fun TV.

Best Little Cable Show is America's Best Dance Crew

Dance_crew_kaba_mordern

I have to say, when I heard that Randy Jackson, he of the Paula and Simon and Mariah and Whitney (and he won't let you forget it, dog) has a dance show, I thought I was more suitable to be bringing a dance show to MTV, and I say that knowing full well that at the height of my clubgoing days the California State Legislature tried to pass a law preventing me from dancing in public.

But this is a great little show, and these kids are uber-talented.

I particularly like two groups, JabbaWockeeZ (clip after the jump) and Kaba Modern (photo above). Kaba Modern includes some kids from the O.C., so they're my home team, so to speak.

The kids are amazingly talented. I don't really get into the judging and all that, who really cares about what J.C. thinks.

And, it's already been renewed for another season. You can check out full eps or clips at MTV.com.

Video -- Grumpy Comedy Pal Lewis Black Has a Hit on His Hands

Root of All Evil did remarkably well. And, if you have a DVR or you're an insomniac, you can still check it out, the schedule is here.

Broadcasting & Cable:

The show -- which bills itself as putting pop culture on trial, with Black "presiding over the comedic proceedings" -- featured a mock trial over which was most evil, the Catholic Church or Oprah Winfrey. It grabbed 2.3 million viewers and topped the 18-24 and 18-34 male demos in the time slot and was second for the night behind its lead-in, South Park.

Comedy has long been looking for a show that could hold onto more of that South Park lead-in. South Park drew 3.1 million viewers, which Comedy said is up 11% from its debut last season.

And, if you missed it I have a clip after the jump.

Watch!!! Wanna Be Paris' BFF? Upload Your Video!

Brettster did, why not you?

He's a 27-year-old self-professed gossip queen who think he and Ms. Hilton would be a great pair to run around Los Angeles together.

He's after the jump, of course, but first, the details (deets, as TV's Ryan Seacrest likes to say, which makes him look like a 13-year-old girl wannabe).

The deal is signed and MTV will be bringing you the search for Paris' new best friend, and that's exactly what the show will be, despite the flurry of rumors to the contrary.

Working title? Paris Hilton's My New BFF.

The producers, btw, are Michael Hirschorn's company. You know, the former VH1 guy who's responsible for my brain partially turning into chocolate walnut fudge because he brought the I Love The ... shows over from the BBC and ran them in marathons on the air that I couldn't seem to resist.

More, including Brettster's video, after the jump.
