Watch Toni Collette in United States of Tara Online Right Now!!!
Go to this link and then type in the word "Tara."
And then I think Showtime asks you to register, but it's totally worth it. I've seen the first four and this is an outstandingly well performed and written (Diablo Cody) show. I predict Emmy noms for Toni Collette and possibly Brie Larson who plays her daughter and Cody, possibly for this pilot episode that I implore you to watch.
I've been trying to figure out how to write about the show all weekend. This is what I have figured out to say without spilling the goods ... You can't imagine how much Tara's dissociative personality disorder opens up the usual narrative of a half-hour family dramedy.
Tara's "alters" include a 15-year-old friend for her daughter, a good ol' boy biker pal for her husband and an overbearing Martha Stewart type for her gay son. Genius, right?
(And, no having to pay additional actors to fill those roles. Ca-ching!)
Well, not when those four women (Tara included) can't work together. And they can't work together because they're never in the room at the same time.
Because they are all Tara.
Okay, I've said enough for now. Go watch it. So worth it. I don't wanna give anything else away.
I have a clip to introduce you to the alters after the jump.
The show premieres on Jan. 18 at 10 on Showtime.
Also, in selected cities, you can see the first two episodes in a theatre with other people, which is unique for a TV show. And, it's free. Totally. Free, my favorite price.
