The Year in Tina Fey News, 2008

Fey

January

Tina wins a Golden Globe for acting in 30 Rock. I am expecting her to win the writing and show awards but choose Christina Applegate over Tina for comedy actress. I'm woefully wrong and Tina will continue to prove me wrong as the year progresses.

Fey_strike February

Tina hosts SNL. Some fans remark on her not wearing her glasses on the air lately.

I say, "In fact, there is all kinds of web furor from the geeknation because of this, mostly because, in my opinion, geeks rock so hard that they get all of life's essentials taken care of faster and have more time to complain about stupid crap."

The glasses continue to come and go as the year progresses. Other glasses are on their way, some frameless glasses and a different hairstyle, if you know what I mean. No one even knows yet that this will happen.

The show scores big big rating, the best for SNL in two years. That's a sign of what's to come, too.

30 Rock returns to TV after the writers' strike. Last time it aired we saw Gladys Knight sign us out. I make a flippant remark about a SAG strike (0ops!).

The episode, titled MILF Island, is a huge pop culture touchstone. I create the "We Wanna See MILF Island" Facebook page. It currently has 135 members (Thanks).

Later that month I implore you to see Baby Mama. Ray Richmond writes glowingly about Tina.

July

TV Critics give 30 Rock and Tina awards. I kvell over the news.

September

It's announced that Tina is "likely" to play Sarah Palin on SNL. It completely blows up, SNL ratings spike huge, it's played everywhere (including here) and is the beginning of the end of the Rethuglican chances in November.

Snl_palin_hillaryAt the Emmys, where Tina wins best actress, comedy writer and show, she shares that her daughter saw the real Palin on TV and thought it was her mom.

30 Rock has not yet premiered, which is the biggest boneheaded move for NBC in decades. All this Tina Fey juice going to waste. Palin still scoring on SNL and all over the 'net and every news show on MSNBC.

October

Tina Fey does a run-in on the Conan show and Julia Louis-Dreyfus ends up with her Emmy, somehow.

30 Rock not premiering until October 30, we post the whole episode via Hulu on the 23rd. I curse this stupid decision to hold the show, I blame everyone I don't like at NBC-Uni (but mostly Ben).

Tina_fey_vf_cover November

Oprah, Steve Martin and Jennifer Aniston are out of the gate guest stars on 30 Rock. Aniston fails to draw a big crowd like her pal Oprah. The Oprah episode is inspired in it's use of Oprah, it is my fave guest appearance of the three.

She signs a big dollar deal for a book of comic essays.

December

Tina on the cover of Vanity Fair. Jeff Richmond, her husband shares the terrifying story of how Tina got that scar on her face. I get kinda depressed because of it for a few days.

If I missed anything, add it in the comments section.
