Only three more episodes left of Skins and then we're out of new content until the third series makes its way here from E4 in the UK, but this is an episode that it might be good to jump in on, since Effy Stonem is the titular character this time around.
We talked about Effy recently in an Around the Horn post, she will be one of two cast members from series two that makes the move on to series three, along with her new pal Pandora, who she meets tonight.
And Kaya Scodelario, who plays Effy, is in my opinion on her way to an oustanding career.
In tonight's episode, Effy tries to make everything better; brother Tony still dealing with the fallout from his acccident, their mother self-medicating in response to that same event, an absentee father working overseas and all the adjacent issues that come into play, including trying to get Sid and Cassie (seen left) back together now that Cassie has experienced some sapphic pleasures.
(Top of page, Effy discovers French cubist painter Georges Braque and his life. I don't know much about Braque, but I've found that nothing in this show is there by accident. If you can figure out what the attraction to Effy is leave a note in the comments.)
My personal opinion? Effy deals with everyone else so that she doesn't have to deal with her own issues, which we learned in the first series of the show were reasonably plentiful. But that's an easy call.
You have to know that both Tony (below right) and Effy are pretty self-sufficient teens, and we remember in the series one Effy episode that Tony spends a lot of time looking after her, too.
If I have one issue with this show it's that the parents are remarkably, incredibly and totally ineffectual at all times. Michelle's mother? A cougar chasing after guys with big dicks. The Stonems? Either self-medicating with their kids' prescriptions or workaholics. Jal's dad is too involved in his hiphop career to realize she's preggers with Chris' baby. And Chris' mom just ran, left him completely.
After the jump, some initial moments from Effy and Pandora, and then the two visit Cassie and her new gal pal.
Tonight at 10 eastern on BBC America. Their site for the show at this link.
Note: If you look at the other Skins sites on the web, it is at your own peril. Spoilers, you know. Remember that the rest of the world has basically already seen all the remaining episodes already. Having said that, a great fansite is SkinsOnline.net.
