TV Critics Award Mad Men, 30 Rock, John Adams, The Wire
You may have seen a little feature in New York Magazine called The Backlash Report. On a sine curve, they plot those things that are getting huge press, those things that have gotten huge press and those things straining under the weight of, yes, their huge press.
And Mad Men is sitting right on the downward slope labeled "overhyped."
But you really can't blame AMC, they do have in their hands the most critically praised drama of the season. And last year, you people (that's right, you people) didn't come out in enough numbers so what's a cable network to do?
Honestly, I still don't think the hype is too much. The show is remarkably good on every level. And now, in addition to its Golden Globe awards (plural) and Emmy nominations (16), it has three Television Critics' Association awards, for best drama, best new show and best show, period.
And my dad gives Christine Hendricks, above, the award for looking most like the women of his glory years. (No statue for that award, strangely enough.
Tina and 30 Rock also take honors, along with the HBO mini John Adams, and The Wire gets a going away award, the association's Heritage Award.
And no award for The Hills? Really?
I think the TV Critics should point out the best AND the worst in each year. We gotta start making these TV people accountable for shit like Tila Tequila and doing decade recap shows before the end of the decade, right Viacom?
