Video -- New 90210, Now With Adopted African-Americans; Or Rather, One (1) African-American
Kinda reminds you of Webster and Diff'rent Strokes, doesn't it?
Dixon Mills is played by Tristan Wilds from The Wire. Wow, is he in for a shock. Going from a critically-acclaimed HBO drama that few people watched (I couldn't handle it, it was way too real for me and it depressed the hell outta me) to a frothy CW series that's probably carrying the hottest buzz of pilot season.
Dixon gets adopted by the Mills family (they are the new "Walshes"). And, hopefully, he won't be the only person of color on the West Beverly High campus. The producers did at one point promise that there would be a better and more appropriate mix of ethnicities. If you look at Beverly Hills High, there are a lot of Middle Eastern and Asian students these days and they better present it as such (or feel the wrath of the many interest groups, all who have websites and blogs just like this one -- okay, not really too much like this one).
So, at least one person of color will have lines on a weekly basis. I can't say how many will. I keep thinking about the gay character on Melrose back in the day and how all he did was open doors for people and rush off to work and back for so long. They better do better for this guy, he comes from a show with a great pedigree and deserves better.
The CW has a new trailer clip at YouTube, and I've posted it after the jump.
