Video -- Britney's Sitcom Return and Plans for Next Season (?!?)
Craig Thomas, who with Carter Bays created How I Met Your Mother and is it's executive producer, talked to the Hollywood Reporter in the last couple of days about (no last name required) Britney's return to the show and ... yuck ... plans for next season.
I have two clips, one from CBS and the Hollywood Reporter video, and they are both after the jump.
Spears first visit resulted in "Mother" hitting its highest rating ever. The show has since maintained an elevated audience level compared to last year. Once considered on the bubble for a fall renewal, the critically acclaimed comedy is now considered a lock to return next season.
I have problems with this on a number of levels (of course, when do I not?) which I have expressed in the past, but the most important one is this ... there is some young woman in Hollywood that would have played the part of the receptionist on the show had there not been a whacked-out pop star looking for some career rehab.
With the producers just breaking off talks with SAG, I think a lot about actors and actors who would like to make a decent middle-class income from acting, and every time Britney or Nicole Richie or even worse, someone from the Spencer Pratt section of the showbiz world gets that gig, the trained actor who doesn't loses.
So, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, if you can managed to not do this in the future, I'm sure those actors and some of us viewers would be much happier. Why us? Because you can't think for a second that I can stay involved in the storyline when one of your characters looks like that stupid chick that became this year's American Trainwreck.
