Video -- Kelly Clarkson's Extraordinary Performance of Ave Maria
Yeah, and the Pope was there, too. Sorry, gang, I'm a big fan of Kelly, but the Pope? Not so much. Has a lot to do with being called inhuman because of who I'm attracted to and of course there's also the whole no birth control thing and the letting kids get raped thing and the mysogyny thing.
The clip is after the jump, but first ... I just wanted to clue you in on something that the announcer from EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network, you know, that channel you skip by when you're surfing the tube from basic to pay channels, at least on my system) said, proving that even the guy narrating the Pope's visit isn't immune from spin.
He says after the song that Kelly insisted on singing for the Pope. That's not true. From Kelly's website:

“I was so excited to be asked to sing for the Pope! I grew up singing church music, and it’s always been a dream of mine to perform Ava Maria. To have that dream come true on such a special occasion is truly a blessing.”
So, to straighten out the spin, she insisted on singing Ave Maria, she did not insist on singing for the Pope. I would guess that you don't turn down the Pope, but I don't think you insist on singing for him. That would probably categorize a person as a papal stalker.
But the reason that I had to post the clip is that she performs brilliantly. I just love her upper register.
