The Highly Regarded Frank DeCaro Writing About Paul Lynde

Lyndehalloween

Frank_de_caroAnd in the NY Times. You know Frank DeCaro (pictured left -- highly regarded not only by me but lotsa others) from his stretch at The Daily Show back in the day. In fact, I would like to see him back there.

Anyhow, I had put the link to the Paul Lynde Halloween DVD in the Amazon box I have in the left hand corner (and if you're gonna buy it, I'd love it if you could click to it via my ad, won't cost you an extra cent and I'll get a little somethin' somethin') but I didn't think I'd be seeing the Times review it.

Here's what Frank says:

Halloween, known to some as the gay Christmas, was a great match for Mr. Lynde’s flamboyant brand of comedy. A wisecracking star of “Hollywood Squares,” he inhabited the so-called glass closet decades before that term was invented, and as a TV actor he had plenty of experience with the supernatural. In the ’60s Mr. Lynde played both Uncle Arthur, the prankish warlock on “Bewitched,” and Dr. Dudley, the jittery family physician on “The Munsters.”

And there's more, click over for it.

And it would certainly be good to see Frank DeCaro back on The Daily Show, dontcha think? I mean, they have a British guy, an Indian guy, lotsa white guys and Larry Wilmore, the Senior Black Correspondent. They haven't had a gay guy in years, except for the occasional appearance of people like Mark Foley and the very ungay Larry Craig.

Here's a clip, with (believe it or not) Margaret Hamilton dressed as the wicked witch introducing Paul to members of KISS. Seriously, that's what this clip is.
